최근 미·중 양국 간 세력경쟁은 정치, 경제, IT, 사회 등 전 분야에 걸쳐 점점 더 광범위하게 전개되고 있습니다. 이러한 국제정세의 전개 양상은 자기 진영에 더 많은 국가들을 끌어들임으로써 세력 확대를 추구했던 과거 냉전체제기 강대국 간 세력다툼을 방불케 합니다. ‘신냉전’으로 불리는 작금의 국제정세를 맞아 서울대학교 아시아연구소 동북아센터에서는 스타켈버그 게임(Stackelberg game) 이론을 통해 국제질서 변동의 메커니즘을 분석해온 일본 와세다대학의 기구치 도무(Kikuchi, Tomoo; 菊地朋生) 교수를 모셔서 연구성과를 공유하는 시간을 갖고자 합니다. 강대국이 구축하는 진영의 크기와 위치, 국가들의 참여와 협력 여부에 따라 유기적으로 변동해온 국제정세의 동향을 파악하고 향후 국제질서의 변화를 전망하는 유익한 시간이 될 것입니다.

Bio
Dr Tomoo Kikuchi is Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University and Adjunct Senior Fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University. Previously, he worked at the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and Korea University and held visiting positions at the MIT Sloan School of Management and the Keio University Global Research Institute. He grew up in Germany and Japan and studied at universities in Japan, Germany and the UK. He is interested in how the global financial market influences economic development of countries and has published papers on the topic in journals such as the Journal of Economic Theory. He has edited many books and journal special issues on trade, finance, and investment in Asia and is an associate editor of the Journal of Asian Economics and Malaysian Journal of Economics.  He frequently writes for newspapers such as the Straits Times and Nikkei Asia. He obtained his PhD in economics from Bielefeld University in Germany.
